The Sims 4 Gallery is the game’s built-in hub for downloading and sharing lots, households, and saved Sims. When it’s down or broken, you’ll typically see downloads stall, uploads fail, or the Gallery won’t connect at all—even if the rest of the game works.
This guide walks you through reliable checks and fixes after a maintenance window, with steps for PC (EA app/Origin) and consoles. Use it like a reference: start with server status and quick fixes, then move down to cache, network, and repair.

What the Sims 4 Gallery is (and what it depends on)
Gallery functionality depends on multiple moving parts: EA authentication, The Sims 4 online services, your platform connection, and your game’s local data/cache. If any one of those breaks (or the service is under maintenance), the Gallery can fail while normal gameplay still runs.

That’s why troubleshooting works best when you separate “service outage” from “local setup problem.”
#1 Best Overall
- Requires The Sims 4 & all game updates. For PC, see minimum system requirements for the pack.
- Develop Parenting Skills – Level up your Sim’s parenting skills to satisfy their child’s needs and influence their behaviors. Gain new abilities through experience and choosing when to discipline bad actions, encourage good behavior, or just let kids be kids.
- Shape Your Sim’s Childhood – The decisions you make influence how your Sim parents and leave a lasting impact on their child’s future. Each choice shapes their personality, affects their traits, influences their family relationships, and guides their path into adulthood.
- Gather your Sim’s family to participate in new activities and spend quality time with each other. Sims of all ages can work together to complete a variety of school projects, express their creativity using construction blocks, or volunteer their time for good.
- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
First: confirm it’s really the Gallery (not your internet or account)
Before changing anything, confirm symptoms. Look for these typical signs:
- Gallery page won’t load or stays on a loading spinner
- Search returns nothing or results never populate
- Downloads stall and never complete
- Uploads fail with a message and no content saved to the cloud
- Sign-in prompts even though you’re signed into the game
If your internet connection is unstable, the Gallery will be the first thing to fail because it relies on frequent online requests.
Check EA server status and maintenance events
Even if your title reads [Maintenance completed], outages can lag behind maintenance. Systems sometimes take extra time to fully stabilize across regions.
Do these checks in order:
- Visit EA’s official status page (search: EA Status) and look specifically for services tied to EA/online gameplay.
- Check EA community updates on X (Twitter) or EA forums for “Sims 4 Gallery” / “online services” incidents.
- Search recent player reports: if multiple people report the same behavior around the same time, it’s likely server-side.
If the outage is confirmed, your best “fix” is waiting—while using workarounds later in this guide.
Quick fixes you can try in 5–10 minutes
These actions resolve a surprising number of connection and session issues.
- Fully close and reopen The Sims 4 (don’t just minimize). Start the game, then open Gallery again.
- Restart your platform: reboot your PC, or fully restart your console (power off, then on).
- Switch network if possible (Ethernet ↔ Wi‑Fi, or mobile hotspot test). If Gallery works on the new network, it’s a network/firewall/ISP route problem.
- Check system time. If your device clock is off by more than a few minutes, login/token checks can fail. Set date/time to automatic.
Troubleshoot on PC (EA app / Origin)
PC issues are usually tied to login sessions, game cache, or security software blocking outgoing connections.
Verify you’re signed in to the correct EA account
Gallery permissions and uploads depend on the correct identity. Make sure your EA account inside the EA app matches what your Sims 4 session uses.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open the EA app (or Origin if you still use it).
- Go to Account and confirm your email/ID.
- Open The Sims 4 and try Gallery again after signing out/in if offered.
Clear the Sims 4 cache folder
Local cache can get stuck after updates or maintenance. Clearing cache forces the game to rebuild its online-ready state.

- Create Vampires
- Unleash Supernatural Powers
- Escape to Forgotten Hollow
- Live the Immortal Life
- Exit The Sims 4 completely.
- Press Win + R, paste
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, press Enter. - Find and delete these folders/files (if present):
localthumbcache.packageand the cache-related data your install uses (commonlycache). - Start the game and test Gallery.
If you don’t see a cache folder, focus on localthumbcache.package and continue with the repair step later.
Run a repair (EA app)
Repair resets broken game files that can cause Gallery connection errors.
- Open the EA app.
- Go to My Collection → The Sims 4.
- Click the game tile’s ⋯ (More) or gear icon.
- Select Repair.
- Wait for completion, then reboot your PC and test Gallery again.
Temporarily disable security software (test only)
Over-aggressive firewall/antivirus rules can block Gallery calls.
- Temporarily disable real-time protection in your antivirus/firewall.
- Launch The Sims 4 and test Gallery.
- If it works, re-enable protection and add an exception for The Sims 4 / EA app network access (per your security tool’s UI).
Troubleshoot on PlayStation and Xbox
On console, the problem is often session/auth or persistent cache. Start with a clean restart and network validation.
Hard restart the console
“Quick restart” isn’t always enough. A full reboot clears session tokens.
- Power off the console fully.
- Unplug power for 30 seconds (optional but helpful).
- Plug back in and power on.
- Launch The Sims 4 and try Gallery.
Check network type and NAT
Gallery needs reliable outbound connections. If NAT is strict, online features can behave oddly.
- On PlayStation: check Settings → Network → Connection Status and look for NAT type.
- On Xbox: go to Settings → General → Network settings and review NAT type.
- If your NAT is strict, test by switching Wi‑Fi/Ethernet, enabling UPnP (if you trust it), or using DMZ as a last resort.
Clear persistent cache (if available)
Some consoles support clearing cache for installed games or system cache. The exact menu differs by model and OS version, but the goal is to clear stuck local online data.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Check your console’s support steps for clearing system cache.
- If available, clear the cache for The Sims 4 and reboot.
- Try Gallery after restart.
If you’re unsure of menu names, your console’s help search is the fastest way to find “clear cache.”

Reset Gallery-related cache and local data
Local caches can store thumbnails, metadata, and connectivity state. When maintenance changes server behavior, stale cache can cause failures that don’t fix themselves automatically.
PC: delete local thumbnail cache
Do this first because it’s low risk.
- Exit the game.
- Go to
Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4. - Delete
localthumbcache.package. - Launch The Sims 4 and test Gallery.
PC: rebuild the game’s online-ready state
If Gallery still fails, clear broader cache folders (only cache folders; don’t delete your Saves or Tray contents).
- Exit the game.
- In
Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, delete cache-related folders (commonly namedcache). - Start the game.
- Test Gallery search, then test a single download.
Network and firewall checks that commonly break Gallery
If other online features work but Gallery fails, the issue is often blocked endpoints, DNS issues, or a routing problem to EA’s services.
Basic network verification
- Confirm your PC/console can open other internet features (web browsing, downloads, multiplayer sessions).
- Test on a different network (mobile hotspot). This isolates ISP/router issues quickly.
DNS refresh
Changing DNS can help when your ISP routes to a slow or failing node.
- Set DNS to 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) or 8.8.8.8 (Google) on your device or router.
- Restart the device after switching DNS.
- Test Gallery again.
Firewall allow rules (PC)
If you’re using Windows Security or a third-party firewall, add allow rules for both the EA app and the game executable.
- Open Windows Security → Firewall & network protection.
- Select Allow an app through firewall.
- Add/allow The Sims 4 and EA app for both Private and Public networks.
Fix account and login issues
Gallery authentication uses your EA session. If the session token is invalid or you’re partially signed in, the Gallery UI may load but fail requests.
Sign out and sign back in
- In The Sims 4, return to the main menu and look for a sign-out option (if present).
- Sign out of EA/your account.
- Restart the game and sign in again.
Check region and parental controls
Console parental controls or account region settings can restrict online content sharing and downloads. If your account is under a child/teen profile, you may see Gallery limitations.

Try a single small download
Pick a popular lot/household with lots of downloads. If it works, the service is reachable; the issue may be item-specific metadata.
- Download one item.
- Confirm it appears in your in-game library.
- Then test another item.
Check space and storage permissions
If your library fails to save items, storage or permissions can be the bottleneck.
- PC: ensure you have enough free disk space on the drive where The Sims 4 is installed and where Documents are stored.
- Console: ensure system storage isn’t full.
Update the game
After an EA patch, a mismatch between your game version and the Gallery backend can cause failures. Verify game updates through your platform’s update mechanism.

Mods rarely break Gallery connectivity directly, but they can break loading Sims/lots from the Gallery because those imports often trigger game pipelines that mods alter.
Test with mods disabled
- On PC, move your
Modsfolder temporarily (don’t delete). - Launch The Sims 4 with mods disabled.
- Try downloading a Gallery household or lot.
If it works with mods disabled, reintroduce mods in batches to identify the conflicting mod.
Broken CC or outdated script mods
Outdated script mods are common after major updates. If a downloaded item contains features that your mods replace, you can hit errors that stop the import.
Repair or reinstall: the last-resort path
If nothing else works and the issue is reproducible on multiple items, take the “clean integrity” approach.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
PC: repair, then reinstall
- Run Repair in the EA app.
- If Gallery still fails, uninstall The Sims 4.
- Reinstall, then launch and test Gallery immediately before adding mods.
Console: reinstall + clear cache
- Clear console cache if the system supports it.
- Reinstall The Sims 4.
- Test Gallery before adding custom content.
Workarounds while Gallery is down
If you just need content right now, you can bypass Gallery by using community uploads and tray transfers.

Use Tray files when available
Many creators provide downloadable Tray files (households/lots) on sites like GitHub repositories or through their own hosting. You can place them into your Tray folder and import them via the game’s library.
Exact workflow depends on the file format and your game version, but the safe pattern is: download → place in Tray → open Gallery/library and place the item.
Manual download from creator sources
If creators link direct downloads (sometimes through links embedded in YouTube descriptions or WordPress posts), you can fetch the files without relying on the in-game Gallery search.

Below are the patterns players most often report. Use them to jump straight to the most likely fix.
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try first |
|---|---|---|
| Gallery won’t load at all | Server outage or auth/session fail | Check EA status; restart game and sign out/in |

| Uploads fail | Account permissions/session or backend issue | Confirm correct EA login; test with one small upload |
| Gallery works, but imported content breaks | Mods/CC conflicts | Disable mods; retry download/import |
FAQ
How long does it take for Gallery to come back after maintenance?
It varies. Maintenance may finish on paper, but backend propagation and regional caching can take additional time. If you see widespread reports and EA status doesn’t flag an ongoing outage, try again in 30–120 minutes.
Does clearing cache delete my saves or tray content?
Deleting only cache folders and localthumbcache.package shouldn’t touch Saves or Tray. Don’t delete your Saves folder, and avoid wiping the entire Sims 4 Documents directory.
Why does Gallery work on one network but not another?
That pattern usually points to DNS, ISP routing, firewall rules, or NAT behavior. Running a test on mobile hotspot is one of the fastest isolations because it bypasses home router policies.
Can mods cause Gallery downloads to fail?
Yes. Mods and outdated script mods may not block connection, but they can cause imports to fail when the game processes the downloaded household/lot. Disabling mods is a strong diagnostic step.
What if I’m getting errors right after updating the game?
Update mismatches are common right after patches. Repair the game via the EA app on PC, then clear local caches. On consoles, reinstall plus a hard restart can fix corrupted state.
Bottom Line
If The Sims 4 Gallery is down or not working after maintenance, treat it as either a server-side outage or a local/session problem. Start with EA status and quick restarts, then move to cache, network/DNS, and account sign-in checks.
When the main fix fails, isolate the cause: test without mods, try a different network, then run repair (PC) or reinstall (console). That approach gets you to a working Gallery state with the least wasted time.
